| Andrew Harrison, the Chief Executive Officer of Diamond Light Source, and Trevor Rayment, the Director of Physical Sciences, were in Tehran on the 9th and 10th of February at the invitation of ILSF. On February 9th, they attended a general meeting at the Laarak campus of IPM, where they heard a report on the progress of ILSF project and got to know the staff of various ILSF technical groups. They then visited the ILSF R&D laboratory. In the afternoon Andrew Harrison delivered a lecture on the Social and Economic Impact of Diamond Light Source and Trevor Rayment talked about some Science Highlights from the Diamond Light Source and Future Plans.
Following these talks a Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the office of the President of IPM, between ILSF and the Diamond Light Source. This MoU establishes a basis for cooperation in synchrotron radiation research between ILSF and Diamond Light Source and aims to (i) combine the expertise of both parties and move towards accomplishing scientific goals, (ii) develop common specialized knowdege and effective use of the facilities belonging to both parties, (iii) increase cooperation and mutual support, and (iv) create a basis for ILSF and Diamond Light Source to work together in the training of personnel, and the design, construction, operation and development of beamlines and the accelerator.
On the following day, a round table was held, and the details for a possible course of action were discussed. The ILSF guests visited the Niavaran Museum and Palace in the afternoon, and left Iran after midnight. | |
