In this paper, the particle trapping formalism is extended to the
plasmas that their equilibrium state are specified by the
non-Maxwellian (here kappa) distribution function. This is worthwhile
because most of the space and some of laboratory plasmas are
in the non-Maxwellian equilibrium. An analytical expression for the electron
density, including the trapped electrons, is obtained.
The ion-acoustic solitons are studied in this frame of work. It is shown
that the deviation from Maxwellian plasma makes it possible for
the stationary ion-acoustic solitons to move subsonically.
Moreover, along with the κ variation, the study of transit
processes associated with soliton properties from a non-Maxwellian
distribution into a Maxwellian one is investigated.
